Can You Tell Me What Creativity is?

What your soul needs to discover about your creativity is a new awakening to your beautiful mind, your willing hands & a heartfelt desire to bring something to life that's new to your life.
Something I’ve been thinking about lately is how creativity isn’t really about being artistic. It's also not about creating anything sellable - it’s more about coming up with ideas that are both new to you & useful.
For a long time I was making a mistake in announcing that we can solve problems or our approach to everyday obstacles with something as beautiful as creativity, treating it like it was something stagnant when in fact it was something a little more alive.
And honestly, a lot of the best ideas I've had these past three decades came from connecting things to each other, discovering how it's all part of a greater whole, that we don’t need to compartmentalize any part of it, it's all related. So much creativity lives inside all of use that there is less space for not being creative than there is for having what people call talent! Talent is simply a willingness to explore, stick with ideas & never steer away from things when they appear to not work out.
Let's not label what creativity is & simply accept that your head, hands & heart already know what to do with creativity because you were born with it!
While most people think creativity is this sudden spark of genius, it’s usually a curiosity to experiment, refine & enjoy doing something with your hands. Over time we get better at it & the interesting part is that it starts to show up everywhere in our lives.
One of those places are the letters we receive in the mail - there was a time when we were eagerly waiting at the front gates of our homes in anticipation for the mail, hoping a loved one could make time to you or that there was a letter written back to you.
For me, a letter in the mail is one of those high points in life... innocently expecting mail that encourages us, that delights with stories & sometimes serenades us by the promise of another one arriving in the mail soon. They touch us in ways we simply cannot explain! - Tanya J. d Wet
You see, we can all be creative in some way & if writing a letter sounds more doable, or at least closer to what you imagine creativity could be expressed as, then a beautiful writing set is exactly what you'll need to start writing a lovely letter to someone you care about.
We have come up with something creative just for you - the Yellow Roses Writing Set. It's a letter set with a printable envelope & a writing page you can download today >>> Find it here
Or if you are a "Creative Way to Mindful Practices" member - it will be free for you & available all the time >>> HERE
There's even more creative writing goodness to find if you are looking to start collecting the limited edition Garden Love Letters series. We've revived the first letter that started it all & while stocks last, you can collect it with whatever month you are in as additional mail.
It really doesn't matter what you do or how you do it, creativity occupies a place in every persons life - it could be pottery, flower pressing, sketching, painting, cooking, writing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, doodling, flower farming, tending to your children - it's all creative. You can even see the act of washing dishes as a creative expression of mindfulness.
When we take a good look at our lives we'll see there are probably a hundred ways we are doing creative things already.
As an example, if you were struggling with your golf swing & made micro shifts in how you hold your club, how you exicute the swing, how you angle the club face or how you plant your feet, you are using your creativity to solve a little issue.
The other day i stood hunched over the basin washing our white socks by hand & it occurred to me that this mindful practice of thinking about the fun we had when we made them muddy whas exactly what I ment to share. Not how to be mindful when washing white socks but rather how to notice that washing out muddy white socks really is a creative practice I've adopted & standing there in enjoyment of how each of my family members had a good time while making these socks dirty was part of the enjoyment of getting them clean.
We take these small acts of creativity for granted & then assume we never do anything creative. And I already know what you might be thingking, "Tanya, you are bat-crazy for saying washing socks is creative & that is so stupid!"
But what if getting up from the couch to do anything is already a step towards creativity?
May I remind you that painting your nails a pretty colour is a nudge towards creativity. Cooking dinner from scratch is creativity. Decorating a corner in your home to have something beautiful to look at is creativity in action. And so is writing a love letter to a friend, even if it's just a text, it's still an act of creativity 🌸
May you notice creativity in your life this month as we play out the physical act of touching & connecting with ourselves, loved ones & the creative practices we once cared about.
Much Love,
xo Tanya
